After countless meditation sessions being derailed by fantasizing about yoga sequences, Mary finally answered the call, signed up for Yoga Teacher Training, and began teaching yoga in 2016.
Mary's heartfelt classes are infused with her authentic zest for life and easy laugh, creating a joyful atmosphere of inclusion and connection to support healing and transformation through the practice of Yoga.
Mary skillfully guides all levels through intelligent and creative breath-led sequences, while suggesting alignment-informed modifications to either support or deepen the experience of the postures.
Above all, Mary seeks to guide you towards your own inner wisdom and unique expression of body, mind, and spirit.
Some people enjoy a gentle and gradual discovery of Yoga and Meditation, but I have always had a cheeky penchant for the dramatic. Sometimes the Universe whispers, but I like to say this time, the Universe bopped me over the head with a baseball bat.
In 2011, an illness brought my frenetic, chaotic, over-stressed life to an abrupt halt. Months into a roller coaster of a healing journey, eager to return to my previous chaos as quickly as possible, I developed a sudden, desperate and voracious appetite for silence that could not be ignored. And, I tried. Completely out of character for me at the time, I knew I MUST attend a silent meditation retreat. Fortunately, the Universe was very generous with support and synchronicities. With the sum of numerous tiny miracles, I soon found myself in a Yurt on Hornby Island. Or I finally lost myself in that Yurt. I do love a good paradox.
With the sensitive guidance of my wise teacher, Michelle St. Pierre, surrendering to silence was profound and sincere. I remain humbled by my experience of grace. I fully let go…relaxed into alignment with my soul, changing the trajectory of my life. My heart opened and the truth poured out. What a relief!
Finally ready to foster a compassionate and loving connection with my healing body, I came to the practice of Yoga. Body, mind, and spirit, I rebuilt my strength and trust pose by pose. After years of dismissing my body’s messages, I learned and practiced to be attuned to my natural rhythms, cycles, and boundaries.
The practices of Meditation and Yoga calibrate me. And keep me from losing my cocoa puffs. Embodiment is AMAAAAAAZING!!! And also, a crazy circus!! Ha! What a playground of sensation! I wish to honour this human life by showing up fully, bravely, openly, and lovingly.
I will finish this chapter of my story with this- after my first retreat with Michelle, I remember reaching out to her with numerous questions “How do I?... What do I??... But what about??.... One answer came back again and again:
“Be Love”.
It was the right answer every single time…
